It's not exactly good cinema, but this Syfy film delivers some enjoyable, silly entertainment. The Sand is a low-budget horror movie from Syfy that seems to acknowledge its own ridiculousness and leans into it. The special effects aren’t impressive, though that’s understandable given the nature of the production. It features predictable lines, not particularly bright characters, and a dangerous alien being – essentially all you need for an hour and a half of mindless viewing and laughter. There's also some nudity early on, which felt out of place for a cable movie, and frankly unnecessary. Despite its flaws, it’s surprisingly one of the stronger Syfy monster movies, managing to create a reasonable amount of suspense and anticipation.
