I had higher expectations going in, even though *’The Salvation'* manages to be an acceptable way to spend 90 minutes. It brought to mind the 1973 film *'High Plains Drifter'*, not in every detail, but more so in its overall feel—at least as I recall that Clint Eastwood movie. This film from 2014 is decent, if somewhat predictable; it might have a stronger beginning than ending, but ultimately it’s something you can watch. Seeing the cast list beforehand definitely created some excitement. Mads Mikkelsen is present, of course, and also spotting Eva Green, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Eric Cantona, and Jonathan Pryce had me hoping for more. To be truthful, I've seen better performances from each of them (except for Cantona, who has only a few lines; since this is the first time I’ve seen him act, I know him primarily as a Manchester United player—a true legend!). Their work here is perfectly adequate, but none of them seemed to be at their absolute best. There are some other minor problems like the (not extensive) special effects and the lighting during the daytime and nighttime scenes early on, but generally speaking, it was an enjoyable experience.
