I don’t really care about politics; I'm more concerned with staying alive. The Running Man comes from Paul Michael Glaser and is based on Stephen King’s Richard Bachman story, adapted by Steven E. de Souza. The cast includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Conchita Alonso, Richard Dawson, Yaphet Kotto, Jim Brown, Jesse Ventura, Erland van Lidth, Marvin J. McIntyre, Gus Rethwisch, Professor Toru Tanaka and Mick Fleetwood. Harold Faltermeyer handled the music, with cinematography by Thomas Del Ruth. It’s certainly full of silliness and pretty bizarre, but it's a remarkably enjoyable bit of futuristic science fiction. Schwarzenegger finds himself unwillingly participating in The Running Man, which is apparently the most-watched program on television at that point. This show involves sending prisoners into a designated area where they have to evade various trackers; expect over-the-top violence and costumes, as well as Arnold’s trademark one-liners. There's a sharp commentary about how TV shows have changed, and it all unfolds against an industrial 80s soundtrack by Faltermeyer. You need to understand what you’re signing up for because this is a standard Schwarzenegger film from that era of wild, chaotic entertainment. So, for those who enjoy his movies, this is something to appreciate—others might not find it appealing enough to really connect with. 7/10
