Okay, so before settling in to watch, it’s best to put your critical thinking aside for a bit because this is intended as an over-the-top action movie. If you accept that, it isn’t terrible once the story finally gets moving. A military officer called "Hummel" (played by Ed Harris) makes off with powerful chemical weapons, holds people captive on Alcatraz Island, and threatens San Francisco. It's up to an FBI scientist who specializes in chemicals, “Goodspeed” (Nicolas Cage), and a prisoner even more unconventional than the general, “Mason” (Sean Connery), to gather some marines and stop this dangerous plan. The performances aren’t particularly strong; honestly, they are pretty rough, but things become somewhat enjoyable for the final thirty minutes when everyone is on the island, there's lots of explosions, and the story moves faster. The lines delivered are full of cheesy one-liners that get annoying after a while, and you never really feel like anything’s in danger. Just be aware: don't expect too much—or anything at all.
