This movie is easily the strongest I’ve encountered so far this year, actually rivaling 'Birdman,' the earlier work by Innaritu. The direction felt incredibly skillful. The way natural light was utilized heightened the feeling of peril emanating from the setting around Hugh Glass, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Innaritu frequently employs sweeping camera movements that circle subjects and scenery to generate a sense of wonder and grandeur. Leonardo DiCaprio absolutely earned every accolade he received for this portrayal; I consider it his finest work yet. The performance’s authenticity and strength are palpable. The narrative held my attention from beginning to end, and the unexpected developments kept me engaged. ★★★★½
