The narrative itself isn't particularly strong, but it’s easily overlooked because of the enjoyable characters. "Madame Medusa," accompanied by her associate "Mr. Snoops" and her twin alligators, has been causing trouble in the Bayou for quite some time while searching for a large diamond. Believing it to be located down a small opening near a tree, she essentially forces “Penny,” a girl from a New York orphanage, into service. Feeling frightened and hopeless, Penny sends out a message in a bottle requesting assistance, which leads "Miss Bianca" and "Bernard"—two of the top agents from the mouse-run, UN-affiliated "Rescue Aid Society"—to set off by albatross. When I refer to them as “top,” it’s worth noting that they haven't really done much detective work before and are often just as frightened by their new environment as the girl they’re trying to find. Fortunately, they meet "Evinrude," who is a spirited dragonfly capable of rapidly moving their leaf boat through the dangerous swamps in pursuit of the missing child. What follows are some amusing adventures as they attempt to stay one step ahead of their adversary—who bears a strong resemblance to “Miss Hannigan” from "Annie"—and her dangerous animal companions. The animation style is appealing and emphasizes the characters' expressions, and interspersed throughout are a few songs that help vary the rhythm; ultimately, it’s an agreeable eighty minutes suitable for families.
