While not flawless or entirely believable, The Reef gets remarkably near to being a convincing shark film. Notably, it marks the initial instance I’ve encountered where characters are exposed in the water without the aid of a vessel like in Jaws (1975) or protective containment as seen in 47 Meters Down (2017). The movie maintains a consistent feeling of tension, prompting viewers to anticipate either a shark's sudden appearance or an episode of sheer terror. Featuring adequate acting from those involved and a brisk narrative, The Reef should provide enjoyable entertainment for a family viewing late at night. (Grade B-). TN.
