Roald Dahl’s third entry in his anthology, The Rat Catcher, offers a distinctive approach to storytelling through narration and limited visuals, prompting viewers to actively participate by picturing important moments themselves. A straightforward but surprising storyline centers on a rat catcher who encounters an unexpected problem when his usual method of dealing with pests doesn't work, leading him to take increasingly strange actions in order to protect his standing. Though the central struggle isn’t overt, the film presents a clever surprise that encourages viewers to re-evaluate what they saw before. Solid performances, skillfully rendered computer graphics, and carefully selected sound effects all contribute to the tense mood. It's an engaging and inventive short film that I would recommend seeing.
