The film’s cast listing should be enough to signal that this is going to be a ridiculous movie – and it doesn't let you down in that regard. A team of archaeologists are investigating an Egyptian pyramid that hasn’t been explored before, when strange occurrences begin. The structure starts to fall apart, and suddenly they find themselves being hunted by Anubis, who isn't happy about being woken up. What happens next is pretty predictable. Things go downhill from there because director Gregory Levasseur seems to have thought we should experience this as if we were actually inside the pyramid. I suspect he believed that the darkness and shaky torch-light photography reminiscent of "Blair Witch" 1999, might generate some suspense. He was mistaken! It simply feels low-budget and lacking in the presence of someone like Boris Karloff or Christopher Lee. The performances and script are equally uninspired ("thank you captain Egypt”!), there’s a lot of pointless screaming that is irritating rather than frightening—and I wanted the monster to get them from fairly early on! Will anybody survive... it's really not worth worrying about.
