Gregory Peck delivers a notably powerful portrayal as Forrester, a Canadian air force officer stationed in Burma. He's portrayed as impulsive and inconsiderate, creating friction with nearly everyone until Dr. Harris (Bernard Lee) attempts to understand the reasons behind his actions. It’s revealed that grief over his recently deceased wife combined with his experiences during the war have taken their toll, prompting Harris to initiate a rehabilitation process where Forrester encounters Anna (Win Min Than). However, the story doesn't conclude there. He travels by plane with Blore (Maurice Denham) and his new roommate Carrington (Lyndon Brook), but the flight ends disastrously, forcing them to navigate a challenging trek back – often dangerous due to Carrington’s injuries and Blore’s stubbornness. Peck’s performance is uneven at times; initially he displays an intense, almost frenzied demeanor, which later shifts to one of leadership and survival during their journey following the crash, proving equally compelling. Brenda de Banzie provides some welcome moments of levity as the composed Miss McNab. The film maintains a steady pace with minimal unnecessary exposition and boasts beautiful cinematography filmed in Ceylon. Overall, I found it quite enjoyable.
