The premise involving a sanctioned release of violence holds some potential, but unfortunately, every attempt at suspense or fright relies on easily anticipated jump scares. The film’s overly earnest tone undermines itself by delivering clumsy social observations alongside familiar plot devices and unbelievable situations. Each appearance of the antagonists is marked by repetitive behaviors—like them slowly turning their heads, skipping around with weapons, or laughing about murder—which quickly become tiresome. The initial concept and Lena Headey's performance were enough to slightly improve my assessment.
