This movie, ‘The Public,’ seems like precisely the sort of commentary on current events and society that’s necessary, and it's clear Estevez put a lot of care into creating something he felt strongly about. Unfortunately, the writing is quite basic, which prevents it from truly pushing viewers, especially given its aim to be widely appealing and easy to understand. It’s still worthwhile to watch, primarily for the performances of those involved and because it raises important issues—issues that seem more complex than what's presented on screen.
