I’m a big fan of films starring Mads Mikkelsen, and *‘The Promised Land’* is excellent! The film’s two-hour length feels very short; you might be able to predict the (wonderful) story’s direction, but that didn't detract from how much I enjoyed it. The visuals are beautiful, as are the settings, costumes, and practically everything else. Simon Bennebjerg demonstrates a real talent for acting in his role as (De) Schinkel. Melina Hagberg and Amanda Collin also make an impression, although the entire cast delivers strong performances. Mikkelsen gives a performance of high quality, really tying everything together—as you’d expect. He's perfectly suited to this kind of part. It places very highly in my list of his films so far; I would only rank it below *‘A Royal Affair’*, *‘Riders of Justice’* and *‘The Green Butchers’*.
