_The Primevals_ is a film that really screams its ’90s origins. The performances are difficult to watch, and the script, aside from borrowing heavily from other movies, attempts to muddy straightforward ideas but consistently falls short. However, for those who appreciate animation and stop-motion techniques, the animated portions alone make sitting through it worthwhile. The combination of live-action footage with the animation is remarkably well-executed; it feels like a natural progression of what Ray Harryhausen achieved over many years.
