Many slasher movies released in the eighties weren't particularly good, but this one might be among the most lifeless ever made. The story involves six students who enjoy being physically affectionate, using drugs, and deciding to go camping. Predictably, they start dying individually at the hands of an unknown assailant. The final moments show a muscular forest ranger attempting to reach the group before the last attractive female character meets a gruesome end. The makeup effects are poorly done, credited to John Carl Buechler. Carel Struycken, who appeared in "The Witches of Eastwick" and the Addams Family movies, is among the actors present, though he doesn't appear until very late in the film and his face is obscured by burns. Steve Bond also has a small part as one of the victims. The direction, along with the script that Brown co-wrote, feels like something unpleasant left behind by wild animals. There’s so much generic footage of nature included, I honestly thought I'd mistakenly rented an episode of "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom." We see the cast eating around a campfire, then walking, and then sitting down to eat again. The forest ranger is part of an incredibly odd sequence where he tells a joke about a frog with a large mouth to a fawn. Jackie Coogan, seemingly forgetting that he once collaborated with major figures in silent films, has only two scenes and participates in another bizarre moment: he and the attractive forest ranger discuss cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches on oatmeal bread...seriously. There's absolutely no sense of anticipation generated. The killer simply observes the students from behind trees. We know it’s him because the filmmakers added a heartbeat sound effect to remind us we’re watching every few minutes. It's best to avoid this mess and watch "Halloween" instead.
