I thought *The Prestige* was fantastic! It’s a skillfully crafted film centered around magic, clocking in just over two hours but feeling like time exceptionally well invested. I felt drawn in from the very start; there are times when you can sense immediately that you're going to really love something, and this was one of those experiences for me. The acting is superb, with a lot of familiar performers involved. Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine—that speech was something else—Christian Bale, and Scarlett Johansson all deliver great performances; I might have noticed minor inconsistencies in the latter two’s accents, or perhaps it was just my perception. There are other strong supporting roles as well, including Andy Serkis and David Bowie! Everyone involved onscreen seems to be at their best. Christopher Nolan is back with his signature complex storytelling here. It isn't quite as profoundly intricate as *Inception*, and I did anticipate some of the plot developments, although not everything was predictable—regardless, it’s just as exciting to watch no matter how much you understand. I really appreciate the way the film presents its narrative. I’m only now noticing how highly rated this movie is, at least on Letterboxd. I generally try to avoid spoilers, but given what I've seen, I'm surprised I hadn’t heard more about it while growing up or even recently. Most of Nolan's other films I remember hearing about somehow, but this one evidently managed to fly under the radar. That might actually be a positive thing, though.
