I don’t make a habit of watching The Polar Express every year, but I think I've seen it three times and wouldn’t be opposed to seeing it again if someone proposed doing so. It holds a strange significance for me because my wife and I once spent a Christmas season volunteering as elves, serving hot chocolate and dancing for passengers on an actual Polar Express train ride when we lived in Maine. (I can confirm, however, that our dancing wasn't nearly as skilled as what’s portrayed onscreen.) The animation feels peculiar initially, but it fades into the background with each viewing. The narrative transforms the journey to the North Pole into a genuinely exciting experience for the kids on board, particularly for the central boy character, who is voiced by Tom Hanks. If you're a fan of his work, prepare yourself, as he provides several voices, one of which sounds quite similar to Gilbert Godfrey in my estimation. I generally try not to find fault with the plots of Christmas movies; part of their appeal lies in incorporating improbable occurrences that culminate in the Christmas miracle. If you’re looking for a rational explanation, you'd be better off consulting an algebra book!
