The Outfit unfolds as a contained mystery, taking place in the late 1950s, centering on a group of mobsters attempting to identify a mole within their ranks. The film’s atmosphere was wonderfully evocative and nostalgic, with the action unfolding entirely within a single room—a choice that effectively heightened the sense of unease throughout. The movie largely relies on dialogue and explanations due to its limited setting, and this proved to be a strength. The writing and conversations were intricate and intelligent, complementing the actors’ performances well. Mark Rylance was exceptional; he portrayed a character who seemed gentle and composed but possessed an underlying air of secrecy that kept viewers guessing. He truly stood out from the rest of the cast. Zoey Deutch's performance felt underwhelming, as her portrayal didn't quite feel authentic to the period, with a delivery that felt contemporary. Johnny Flynn and Dylan O’Brien were adequate, although Simon Russell Beale provided a pleasant surprise. Despite his limited screen time, I appreciated his intimidating presence and his rapport with Rylance. The film presents several layers of intrigue, making it pleasurable to observe their development. However, I thought the latter portion contained an excess of these elements. While I was captivated by the plot’s developments up until the film's conclusion, the final twists felt exaggerated and unbelievable.
