The premise held some potential, though I suspect more attention to developing the characters would have improved things. Instead, what we get is a fairly standard drama about two couples residing in apartments within a renovated house. Both are anticipating parenthood, but when tragedy strikes one couple and they lose that prospect, bitterness arises, leading the narrative into a darker space as an unpersuasive agreement emerges, driven by a transparent motive. The storyline feels underdeveloped, with the interactions between Clémence Poésy, Stephen Campbell Moore, Laura Birn, and David Morrissey—who has limited screen time—appearing improbable and genuinely flawed. I imagine it could be more effective if presented on stage, where heightened emotion might compensate for some of its shortcomings; as a film, however, it requires the audience to do too much work, filling in numerous holes within a disappointing script. It feels insufficiently substantial given the subject matter, unfortunately.
