I’d been certain for quite some time that I was familiar with this movie. I even maintained that I had already seen it, and then when it appeared on Netflix, I waited to see Hoffman's performance, and I ended up being surprised. There wasn't a Nazi dentist involved, and I understood I was entering something entirely different. It feels rather low-budget. It seems like they were aiming for a dystopian Los Angeles, but it doesn’t really look that dissimilar from the last time I visited. Seriously. And it appears to be taking cues from *I Am Legend*, at least in terms of plot; I'm quite sure that's what they intended to adapt. It hasn't stood the test of time well, and it probably didn’t have a massive budget initially anyway. Still, it delivers a kind of 70s dystopian vibe, only set in what appears to be fairly contemporary Los Angeles. Southern California being sunny seems like an odd backdrop for vampires, but it manages to incorporate all the elements I enjoy... so I'm giving it a 10 out of 10 for its entertainment value. The narrative is good, but the production quality isn’t great.
