"Highlander" comes to mind immediately; it was a genuinely great film—something you’d recall fondly, full of feeling, romance, thrills, and a wonderful score. However, "The Old Guard" feels like the complete opposite. It's a rigid narrative that seems designed to rationalize interventionist policies from Western nations, incorporating themes of social justice and sexuality into its politics. As a result, the plot itself gets lost. The story meanders, features an unsurprising development, and ultimately stumbles to an abrupt conclusion. The action sequences are acceptable, and the performances are decent, but these elements don’t come together effectively; the final product is simply flawed. I truly hope this remains a singular entry in the franchise. Yet, it appears another installment is already being planned, and I dread contemplating what that might entail. 2/10
