This film feels like an affront to common sense. Nolan appears to have actively tried to destroy the essence of Homer's poem, both its meaning and its feel. The core message is entirely lost. Even Emily Wilson’s translation of *The Odyssey*, which seems to be the foundation for this adaptation, suggests that the movie is flawed because Nolan seemed solely focused on portraying the characters negatively, without any appreciation for their heroic qualities. It would take far too long to detail every mistake. However, what's striking is how massive these errors are, so much so that you have to wonder if they were deliberate, driving up production costs; it makes you question the reasoning behind choices like using a Norwegian ship when Greek triremes were readily available, or casting Asian soldiers. Why cast a Black rapper? Or Helen, who the *Iliad* describes as having very fair skin and likely blonde hair—Greeks, including Achilles, were of Celtic descent and often had blonde hair. And why insist on steel weapons and armor?
