Robert Louis Stevenson’s narrative reduced to its essentials. Jerry Lewis takes on multiple roles—starring, directing, producing, and co-writing (with Bill Richmond)—in this humorous adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I have fond memories of *The Nutty Professor* from my childhood; in fact, a lot of Jerry Lewis’ movies made an impression on me when I was younger, but not many hold up to repeated viewings as an adult and still elicit the same kind of laughter. This one still manages to do for me now what it did years ago. Looking at some online reviews, you can see that some people are analyzing it more deeply than is really needed. Sure, there are interesting themes if you want to explore them—like appearances versus reality, those who are humble gaining power, being true to yourself, and concerns about fitting in—but at its core, it’s a comedy based on the Dr. Jekyll & Mr Hyde story with Jerry Lewis delivering some excellent physical humor. Lewis' portrayal of the "good" and "bad" aspects of one person feels like he's expressing himself, and he clearly enjoys playing both sides of the character. There are several very funny scenes, such as Kelp’s attempts to gain muscle at the gym and his jitterbugging performance, all leading up to a conclusion where reason triumphs, emotions are evoked, and a smile spreads across your face. Stella Stevens is also in the film as the romantic interest; she's not only attractive and beautifully dressed in Edith Head’s form-fitting costumes but also serves as a good contrast to both of Lewis’ characters. *The Nutty Professor*, brimming with Technicolor and comedic energy, exemplifies inventive filmmaking that prioritizes entertainment. 9/10
