Taissa Farmiga is back after a five-year break, once again wearing her religious garments as the nun skilled at confronting demonic manifestations. The story unfolds in 1950s France, where a priest is murdered within his church – not by another person, but something far more sinister, and that's when "Sister Irene" gets involved. Her inquiries soon lead her to an all-girls school, where a past incident has resulted in a room being completely locked away, and she suspects the origin of this evil might be found there. Will she uncover the identity of this demon and stop its plans—plans focused on consuming her own essence? It’s hard to say. There's some visual appeal from Jonas Bloquet as the handyman "Maurice," but that is offset by an abundance of children, which often ruins horror films because of their screaming, squealing, and negative impact on the suspense. However, they aren't the only element holding this back; it feels overly talkative, follows a formulaic structure, and is entirely predictable. Even the special effects seem to be directly inspired by the initial movie, culminating in an ending that won’t surprise anyone. I realize it’s difficult to come up with something new in horror, but movies like this don't provide much in terms of original ideas, strong performances or writing, or even a touch of genuine fear. It's fine for watching on television around Halloween, but that’s about it.
