I recently witnessed your so-called killer thoroughly outmaneuver your so-called police force! Following the prior year’s success of *The Night Stalker*, Carl Kolchak (played by Darren McGavin) is back for another film. The reporter, known for his quick wit and a general distrust of those in suits, finds himself in Seattle and quickly determines that the recent killings are more than just the actions of a serial killer. However, persuading the authorities proves to be a challenge. The structure remains consistent; Kolchak clashes with both his editor and the police throughout the story. He narrates for the audience, demonstrating he’s clearly superior to those in charge, delivering sarcastic remarks as if they were profound insights, and naturally possessing considerable charm. What sets this installment apart is that the villain, portrayed skillfully by Richard Anderson, speaks—a sort of modern-day Count Dracula, a nascent Eugene Tooms; he's an excellent antagonist, which gives Kolchak more to work with. The resolution isn’t unexpected, but there are plenty of entertaining and distinctly 1970s scares along the way. Jo Ann Pflug, Simon Oakland (again providing great contrast for McGavin), Scott Brady, Wally Cox, Margaret Hamilton, and John Carradine also appear in this enjoyable film. A television series would emerge due to the character's popularity and its episodic monster format, later influencing *The X-Files*. Kolchak’s reputation is well-deserved. 7.5/10
