This is a very intense family story, but it feels grounded in truth, reminiscent of films like Mike Leigh’s 'Secrets & Lies' combined with the style of Matthew Weiner’s ‘Mad Men,’ and also sharing qualities with Mike Nichols' 'Closer.' It’s an unusual piece of work, existing apart from typical categories and the demands of mainstream movie production. But 'The Nest,' much like the large house it depicts, creates a sense of unease. And it reveals a troubling force that is difficult to get rid of: damaged connections causing distress in hidden places.
