It's wonderful to see "The Naked Gun" bringing back a style of comedy that seems increasingly rare. It feels like a tribute to a type of humor frequently overlooked, but which, when executed well, can create real and widespread laughter unlike almost anything else. Liam Neeson heads up an ensemble cast completely embracing the absurdity, supported by writing that respects the history of what is considered one of the greatest comedy series ever made. For those who have been following along for a long time, it’s probably a familiar and pleasant revisiting of cherished memories. As someone discovering it now, I found it to be an ideal introduction to Frank Drebin (Jr.). This movie is straightforward, uncomplicated, and most importantly, very funny—precisely the kind of experience film can offer. Rating: A-
