This movie? Ugh. Albert Brooks manages to make it work...but Sharon Stone just doesn't connect with the material. There are moments of humor, but they mostly come from Brooks’s performance; otherwise, you’re watching Stone at her least impressive. It really highlights how much I appreciate her earlier, smaller-scale movies or those where she made a real effort. Andie MacDowell is as charming and delightful as ever, though Bridges was still struggling to find his footing (which thankfully seems to be behind him now). Meanwhile, Stone appears to be going through the motions, seemingly preoccupied with everything except her character. Ultimately, it feels like she’s just collecting a salary while Brooks tries desperately to keep the film afloat and support the other actors, all while Sharon does as little as possible.
