It’s striking how earnestly people approach this one—at least the humans do. The Muppets themselves don't seem to notice, but the human characters behave as if they’re striving for the most intensely solemn rendition of *A Christmas Carol* imaginable... And surprisingly, that approach actually succeeds. It truly does. This is a Muppet film featuring performances on par with Shakespeare, which makes it stand out among adaptations of *A Christmas Carol*. The tone manages to be both deeply earnest and laugh-out-loud funny. Everything's exceptionally well done; the visuals are stunning too. ...though they left out the song again! That’s disappointing because it’s a number that always gets me choked up, and as far as I can tell, it only appears in one version—a version which wasn't included in what I was just watching. It’s upsetting, certainly, but even without it, the film is wonderfully acted, visually beautiful, consistently funny, and genuinely heartwarming—exactly what a Muppet movie should be. I enjoyed this when I was younger, and my fondness for it hasn’t diminished at all.
