Even though the plot feels familiar and follows expected patterns, with elements of modern social commentary and an underlying sense of American superiority—if you’re looking for it—there are still worthwhile aspects to The Mother. What stands out initially is Jennifer Lopez's surprisingly captivating acting. I’ve always known her primarily as a musician, though I’ve been aware of her attempts at acting over time. She delivers a performance that rises above the ordinary as an assassin who also has maternal feelings. Lopez and Lucy Paez, portraying her daughter, have a genuine connection that holds the movie together and lifts it beyond its otherwise unremarkable qualities. The action sequences are plentiful, but they don’t leave much of an impression. Ultimately, the film's success is due to the performances given by the main actors.
