The creature design proves to be sufficiently frightening. Certain films depend excessively on visual effects, and although this one includes its own quantity (and some of it appears low-budget), the monster is captivating in its own right, the characters are likable enough, and the story moves at a suitable speed so that it succeeds even without elaborate action sequences. The actors were well-chosen, the directing exceeded expectations, and there's a palpable sense of suspense throughout. It’s undeniably a monster movie, and the creature itself functions very effectively. I’m glad I took the time to see it.
