There’s a sense of both promise and disappointment in "The Monkey." Osgood Perkins manages to create some genuinely interesting scenes and draws good performances from the actors involved, yet the film struggles due to its lack of focus. The disparate combination of tones and genres doesn't quite come together as intended. What some viewers might see as a bold and inventive mix of horror, satire, family dynamics, and humor, others will likely find jarring and confusing. For me, it just didn’t succeed. Rating: C-
