It's an enjoyable film I’d happily view again, and one I can suggest to others. Even though this motion picture came out in 1986, it holds up surprisingly well over time. The story centers on anxieties surrounding homeownership and upkeep, so modern technology like smartphones isn’t a factor. It could be remade almost exactly as is because the themes remain pertinent now, and the writing is solid. I can't say who would play the leads today in place of Tom Hanks ("Forest Gump") and Shelley Long ("Cheers"), but they’d need to be skilled performers to capture what makes the film special. Though some humor comes from comedic mishaps around the house, it’s really the actors' portrayals that convey the movie's feeling and appeal. It’s definitely worth seeing, and a fun journey back in time.
