It’s easy to see why this movie feels like a mishmash—so many people were involved in its creation that it winds up borrowing from other films, making it difficult to offer an unbiased assessment. The similarities to movies like "Jaws" and "Deep Blue Sea" are immediately apparent, but this film is clearly the least impressive of the three. Even when viewed on a large IMAX screen, the story progresses at a very slow pace, despite Jason Statham's energetic performance as he tries to fight the giant creature with what amounts to a large knife. The rest of the acting and most of the lines spoken are pretty ordinary, and without the impressive CGI effects, it would likely elicit laughter rather than suspense. I’m already looking forward to seeing what happens next in the second film.
