Richard Burton’s presence, despite his prominent billing, is limited to brief appearances as a man haunted by a troubled history. His accounts shared with his psychiatrist, "Dr. Zonfeld" (Lee Remick), are passed on to police inspector "Brunel" (Lino Ventura) following the discovery of him ("Morlar") severely injured at his London residence. As the inquiry progresses, it becomes apparent that conventional logic doesn’t hold true. “Morlar” seemingly shouldn't be alive, but his brain function alongside a series of incidents and increasingly shocking – though sensationalized – details about his history of misfortune prompt "Brunel" and the Assistant Commissioner (Harry Andrews) to reach an unbelievable conclusion. Ventura delivers a solid performance, as does Remick with her subtle yet impactful portrayal. The plot maintains its intrigue by delaying predictable developments, and Burton, when he appears, embodies a kind of frenzied depiction of wickedness. While it occasionally relies on extensive dialogue, the final twenty minutes offer compelling drama that is skillfully constructed. It's a worthwhile example of telekinetic suspense!
