Charles Bronson portrays “Bishop,” a professional assassin who is extremely skilled at covering his tracks, making deaths appear accidental or natural. When instructed to eliminate his contact, "Harry" (Keenan Wynn), he carries out the assignment without hesitation but subsequently takes Harry’s son, "Steve" (Jan-Michael Vincent), into his care. The younger man seems eager to follow in “Bishop's” footsteps, prompting the older assassin to train him and involve him in a couple of assignments. However, these operations don't unfold as planned, leading “Bishop” to suspect he might be part of a larger scheme. If those above him were willing to betray "Harry," could they also target him—eliminating any remaining loose ends? Bronson delivers a strong performance as the taciturn but efficient killer, and his understated acting style, combined with sparse dialogue, effectively creates an atmosphere of suspense. Vincent’s portrayal isn't quite as impactful, though he is serviceable enough in a story that may not be overly complex, but which benefits from a satisfying resolution. The film incorporates elements reminiscent of "007"—such as fast cars, speedboats—and features Jill Ireland; it demonstrates why Bronson enjoyed considerable box office success early in the 1970s.
