I was immediately hooked when Trinity paused in mid-air, the camera circled around her, and she unleashed that powerful kick. That happened right at the beginning—it was the best opening I’ve ever seen. Seeing it for the first time back in 1999 felt like what people who were old enough to see *A New Hope* must have experienced in theaters in 1977, that initial "WOW." From the very beginning, everything about it was just incredibly impressive. The soundtrack was fantastic too, and the story itself was simply enjoyable science fiction! The film maintained its visual style, sense of fun, and overall coolness throughout, culminating in one of the most memorable endings of any movie from the nineties. It established a new standard for sci-fi action films. It’s truly one of those movies that changed what the genre could be.
