The Marvels demonstrates both familiar positive aspects and shortcomings typical of MCU productions. The movie suffers from problems with its writing and editing, which negatively impact how well the story flows and how fully developed the characters feel, not to mention a brief running time that doesn't serve the antagonist well. On the plus side, the film benefits greatly from its group of actors and their rapport—Iman Vellani stands out as particularly strong—along with inventive action sequences, striking visuals, beautiful costumes, and appropriately placed moments of levity; these elements collectively help elevate the movie. Nia DaCosta has delivered a fun, accessible superhero film that doesn’t quite reach exceptional status, but provides opportunities for growth in later chapters of the series. Rating: B
