The performances from Caine, Quinn, and Mason don't quite land well in this somewhat awkward crime story. The narrative doesn’t offer them much assistance either. Quinn, playing a Justice Department official ("Ventura"), has been attempting to stop the operations of drugs kingpin "Brizard" (Mason) for years, but he seems untouchable! Desperate, he brings in an unfamiliar hitman to eliminate his enemy. It turns out that this assassin is actually his old friend, "Deray" (Caine). The film unfolds against a backdrop of beautiful Parisian and Alpine landscapes as we witness this pursuit. Beyond the uninspired plot, there’s not much genuine excitement or action either. Caine isn't present for almost the entire opening section; Mason delivers a solid villainous portrayal—though he appears far too infrequently in what quickly turns into a fairly routine drama that is only occasionally brightened by scenes involving Quinn. It’s an acceptable viewing experience, but it’s not something you’ll probably remember.
