This film offers a comical take on classic horror movies featuring Steve Martin and Kathleen Turner. A brain surgeon who has lost his wife finds himself married to a scheming woman (Turner), but during a trip to Vienna, he discovers a preserved brain still alive—a female brain with whom he shares a special connection, brought to life by Sissy Spacek’s voice acting. David Warner portrays an eccentric doctor in Austria. “The Man with Two Brains,” released in 1983, has a feel and comedic tone similar to “The Jerk” from 1979, which makes sense since they both come from the same director/actor collaboration. It’s a silly parody of mad scientist movies that provides some amusement, though it doesn't consistently elicit uproarious laughter. The film does well in its portrayal of women, with Turner appearing prominently and tastefully. Randi Brooks also appears as Fran, but her voice is quite irritating. There's a brief instance of female nudity, yet the movie manages to avoid becoming overly explicit. I found the ending particularly rewarding, with its exploration of soulmates and how their bond transcends physical form. The film’s length is one hour and thirty minutes, and it was filmed in Los Angeles and at Castle Green Apartments in Pasadena, California. GRADE: B/B-
