This isn’t even charmingly goofy. It has less believability than The Campaign does. It takes considerable effort to get through Julia Stiles’ portrayal of this rigid, detached character who is overly focused on correct English usage. Even setting that aside, the dynamic between her and David Walton feels contrived, deliberately creating a chasm between them. He's a vendor struggling with his words; she finds fault with everything and can barely manage a smile. The point is clear: they’re worlds apart. Eventually, they figure out how to adjust, and she discovers that being kind and agreeable can be surprisingly effective. Was I anticipating something else? Not particularly; I was simply trying to mark another one off my list for the year. I did find myself laughing occasionally and accepting its sentimental aspects, which is why I won’t give it a lower rating.
