A boy named "Peter," raised by a strict, former military man, yearns to reunite with his sister, separated during wartime. While obtaining their basic necessities—stale bread and fish—he notices a fortune teller’s tent and seeks her predictions. She suggests he might be reunited with his sibling if he follows an elephant, something unheard of in that town. Simultaneously, a not-very-skilled magician is struggling to amuse the local dignitaries when he unexpectedly summons... The king then visits to witness this magically produced, loud animal and proposes a condition: if "Peter" completes three seemingly impossible challenges, he can keep it. These tasks are amusing, as is the film itself. While the plot feels familiar and occasionally dips into overly sentimental territory, it's an appealing family story with memorable characters and vibrant settings. It could probably benefit from being trimmed; the beginning feels slow—it’s a while before things really get started—but overall I found it to be a pleasant experience watching on a large screen, as it gives the main character a sense of creativity and trickery.
