I wondered if I’d give up my ambitions for someone I loved! I chose to watch it specifically because of Scott Eastwood. I hadn’t been impressed by his previous roles, so I was hoping this one would change my mind and I'm glad that it did. If you enjoy romance novels and movies, you’ve almost certainly encountered Nicholas Sparks. While I haven’t read any of his books, I generally like the films adapted from them. So, going in, I anticipated another wonderful romantic story, but it didn’t quite reach that level. It's not a fantastic film, though it remains pleasant and lovely to watch. The acting was solid; I always enjoy seeing Britt Robertson. The movie used dual narration—one storyline unfolded during the 1940s and beyond, while the other took place in present day. Both narratives centered on a young romance and their struggles to navigate difficulties in their relationship. That felt somewhat fresh, and it’s really the film's strongest aspect. I believe the director did what he could; he has directed some good movies before. The movie had potential to be much better if there was more emotional depth, which seems necessary for a story like this one. I found the ending predictable at first, but I was relieved that it took a different turn in the last minute and concluded satisfactorily. The film’s length and slow rhythm were drawbacks, but otherwise you likely won't be let down. It gets my recommendation! 7/10
