It’s hard to see how this film could be more tedious. The narrative drags on relentlessly, especially considering we already know where it’s headed, and it relies heavily on tired clichés, including an offensive portrayal of a Jewish couple. It seems audiences are puzzled by the underlying symbolism that supposedly links the tale of the older man—and his unexplained letters—with the younger pair's experiences. I wouldn’t say the actors do a terrible job, but the writing itself is simply awful.
