What follows is deeply disturbing, suggesting some level of involvement from law enforcement before a thoughtful and powerful spoken-word piece from Riz Ahmed emerges, posing questions about identity within the UK during 2020 and highlighting inconsistencies in national values. The cinematography places you directly into the middle of this situation, creating a sense of being an observer to the unfolding events. I’m not convinced that this portrays something that could genuinely occur in Britain, nor do I think there are police who would allow such a brutal act to take place; however, film sometimes requires heightened scenarios to spark discussion and reaction – and this certainly provides plenty to consider.
