The film _The Lodge_ came out in 2019, and it’s from the same creative team behind _Goodnight Mommy_, a German-language movie that I consider one of my favorite films in recent memory. So, how did they do with this English-language horror thriller? The story goes like this: A father has to leave his children at their vacation home while he takes care of work obligations, and he leaves them in the care of his new girlfriend, Grace. While they’re isolated, a snowstorm traps everyone inside the lodge, and unsettling things begin to happen that bring up disturbing memories from Grace's history. This movie is terrible. It feels slow, it’s dull, and the final explanation for everything was so far-fetched that I actually laughed. Around the sixty-minute mark, not much had occurred; we hadn't really gained any new insights into the characters, and there's a lot of foreshadowing to the point where when things finally start happening, nothing feels unexpected. It’s just average filmmaking, and I’m frustrated that I spent money renting it on YouTube.
