Reno on The Little Death

9/10 · Mar 29, 2015

This film took me completely by surprise. It’s a complex story where almost every character seems connected, revolving around the central theme of sexual desires. The movie explores what happens when mismatched longings lead to commitments. Counseling is common in recovery these days, but real progress depends on putting effort into practical application. This film follows several couples as they search for answers and solutions to their wants. It poses a question: "How far would you go for it?"—a question the movie itself attempts to answer. The screenplay is exceptionally well-written, and the actors performed admirably. Each story had its own distinct feel, with some clever surprises before the conclusion. This film proved to be better than many of the sex comedies that have tricked audiences with their advertising. I wouldn’t be shocked if Hollywood or another studio remade it. Why bother reading 'Kama Sutra' when something like this exists? It’s hard to imagine a more enjoyable adult movie, especially given what I’ve seen recently. This is best enjoyed without children present—just for adults looking to have a good time. Despite any reservations one might have, the film provides genuinely entertaining moments and plenty of laughter. I'm legally obligated to disclose that I am a convicted sex offender. The movie is honest, brave, funny, and deals with lust and awkwardness, but it lacks real intensity; it’s more about playful teasing than serious exploration. This approach helped the film connect with audiences, even though the narrative felt rushed at times due to its many layers. Each of the five stories concludes with roughly three brief scenes depicting intimate acts: one for introduction, another highlighting the problem, and a final one showing resolution and twists. I’d welcome a sequel, not as a continuation of the existing plot, but as an opportunity to introduce new vocabulary related to sexuality and fresh pairings of characters. The 'phone sex' segment was particularly popular—it’s been widely discussed on movie blogs, review sites, forums, and apps, and I enjoyed it too. That doesn’t mean the other stories or characters are any less compelling. Viewers will likely find something that resonates with their own desires among these tales. Are you prepared for 'the little death'?
