I’m drawn to films set in the past. The combination of horror and a historical setting really excites me. The way the central characters perform their roles is remarkable, without question. Despite the violence and excess, there are moments of real gentleness. Constant suspense had me completely engrossed, holding my breath so I wouldn’t miss anything. The graphic imagery reappears to underscore that this is an attack on our senses as well as a battle for our minds; it's not only what we witness but also what we consider and believe. I am absolutely thrilled and stunned by the film. Definitely one I’ll want to watch again.
