However, one deception triggers another and... “The Lie” (2018) falls into the drama category with crime thriller aspects; it’s essentially a cautionary narrative similar to “A Simple Plan” (1998), though with a distinct plot. Like "Match Point" (2005), this is a dramatic situation that escalates, compelling viewers to support the main characters even as they make questionable choices during a pivotal moment in their lives. Some people who consider themselves experts argue that the initial scenario strains credibility, but we’re dealing with adolescent girls here, who are capable of impulsive actions driven by immature feelings.
