The film doesn't break much new ground; its echoes of Frankenstein and similar horror stories are apparent. Nevertheless, I found myself enjoying it. There were moments when it was genuinely frightening, and despite the scares feeling somewhat manufactured most of the time, I did experience a few startling surprises. The special effects were impressive but felt like they could have been more elaborate. I’m awarding it 3 1/2 stars.
